St. Mary’s International School is seeking a dynamic, energetic and positive school leader for the position of elementary assistant principal. Under the direction of the elementary school principal, the assistant principal will assist with administrative responsibilities that increase the scope of learning and support to students, teachers, and parents at the elementary school.
Requirements for the role include:
Master's degree in educational leadership preferred.
Teaching certificate and elementary classroom teaching experience required.
Familiarity with Google Apps for Education, Apple infrastructure, and communication software as deemed necessary. (Atlas, MAP, WEAVE, etc.)
Educational leadership experience. (Assistant principal, curriculum development, department chair, team leader, committee chair)
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills which allow the candidate to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other administrators.
Commitment to the leadership team’s vision and ability to support the direction of the school in both words and action.
Experienced in working in a collaborative environment.
Familiarity with and understanding of recent developments in elementary education.
Readers Writers Workshop experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead learning-focused workshops for teachers and parents.
Demonstrated leadership with professional development and student assessment models.
Understanding of current best practices in child safeguarding.
A deep understanding and appreciation of boys and how they learn at the various developmental stages.
Flexibility, a smile, and a sense of humor.
The Assistant Principal shall collaboratively:
Assist with handling routine disciplinary infractions or concerns, and the monitoring of attendance
Assume responsibility for student orientation
Assume responsibility for student activities and leadership
Assist with St. Mary’s International School’s student safety plan
Assist with calendar and scheduling
Liaise with the SSG (Student Support Group)
Support counselors and teachers in monitoring students who are academically, socially and emotionally at risk.
Assist in the organization and running of special school-wide programs or events.
Work with the principal for professional practice feedback.
Work with the principal to coach faculty in pedagogy.
Manage and keep the student and teacher handbooks up to date.
Assist the principal in the hiring process.
Work collaboratively with the leadership team.
Encourage and celebrate student successes.
Facilitate grading and reporting in the student management system.
Collaborate with the principal to prepare for parent/teacher conferences.
Work collaboratively with the subject area learning coordinators and grade level representatives to ensure smooth delivery of the curriculum.
Research, develop and lead new teaching/learning innovations to improve the academic program.
Serve as acting principal in the principal’s absence.
Other duties as assigned by the principal/head of school.
