A co-educational private day school grounded in the Christian faith, Hong Kong International School (HKIS) serves Reception 1 through Grade 12 students from around the world seeking an American college-preparatory education. Serving over 2,850 students, HKIS has two campuses on the south side of Hong Kong Island: the Lower and Upper Primary Schools are located in Repulse Bay, while the Middle and High Schools are in Tai Tam.

Upper Primary Chinese Studies Teacher

In order to meet HKIS student learning results and grade level expectations, the Chinese Studies teacher carries out the following responsibilities within the following domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.

The role of the Mandarin teacher at HKIS includes planning, classroom instruction, assessment, grading and collaborative work with other Mandarin teachers. It may also include responsibilities of a homeroom (pastoral care) and coaching or other student club. Requirements:
• Qualified Teacher in Chinese language and culture
• Training workshops or certificate in teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language, preferably TPRS, TBLT and training related to ACTFL standards/benchmarks/assessment
• Bachelors Degree in relevant subject area
• Masters preferable
• Minimum 5 years experience in teaching Chinese as a second/foreign language
• Successful experience in working with students in the age group she/he is teaching
• Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with American educational system
• Experience in creating UbD units of work using ‘backward design’ strategies

Middle School Religious Education Teacher, Part-time (one year, 0.4 FTE)

In support of the HKIS Mission and Vision, and to meet HKIS Student Learning Results and Religious education expectations, the Religion Teacher carries out the following broad responsibilities across the following domains: Planning and Preparation, Instructional Strategies, Management, Assessment, and Professional Responsibilities. The position is responsible for ensuring that the curriculum reflects the Middle School learning outcomes as it relates to the R1-12 religious education program. This includes teaching the Old and New Testaments and the centrality of Jesus in the Bible. The position also supports the Schoolwide Religious Education program and collaborates closely with the Director of Curriculum and Assessment in articulating learning outcomes, standards and benchmarks and in developing units.

Requirements:
•    Bachelors Degree in Religion or related subject area, Masters Degree preferred
•    Qualified Teacher Certification 
•    Minimum 5 years of full time teaching in Religious education 
•    Successful experience in working with students in the respective age group
•    Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with American educational system preferred
•    Experience teaching ESL students preferred
•    Experience in creating units of work using ‘backward design’ strategies preferred
•    Experience collaborating with a large team of teachers preferred

Middle School Grade 7&8 Social Studies

Responsible for planning and delivering lessons Social Studies to middle school students.  In addition to formal instruction, the teacher will also be the primary adult care-provider to a group of students within their homeroom.  Within this capacity, the homeroom teacher serves as a guide, mentor and significant adult in the child’s school life as well as the primary liaison between school and home. 

Requirements:
- Qualified teacher in the relevant subject area;

Middle School Counselor

Provide school counseling services that promote students’ personal, social, spiritual and educational development in accordance with recognized standard of practice for international school counselors.
