THE AISVN STORY
Located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, American International School Vietnam (AISVN) is an independent, proprietary co-educational Pre-K to 12 IB continuum school with around 1,200 students.
Founded in 2006, AISVN has evolved into a high quality IB School over the past 13 years, with an excellent reputation. The student body is 90% Vietnamese students which is seen as a strength at AISVN. The faculty is 95% international. The school is located to the south of Ho Chi Minh City on a beautiful purpose-built campus on 6.5 hectares. AISVN is a non-selective school offering PYP, MYP and DP programmes that provide academic rigor, and personal growth. The school is a candidate school for the IBPYP and IBMYP.
SCHOOL GUIDING STATEMENTS
The AISVN community has developed a series of aligned Guiding Statements, endorsed by the Board of Directors, which drive the planning, decision-making, and actions of the school. The Board of Directors intend for these statements to extend to the entire AISVN community. The school Administration Team monitor and measure the extent to which the Guiding Statements are effectively implemented on a regular basis. The following statements comprise AISVN's Guiding Statements:
• Vision Statement
• Mission Statement
• IB Learner Profile
AISVN guides students to become global citizens and sustain their cultural heritage.
AISVN empowers students to think critically and prepares them to be resilient and compassionate leaders, making the world a better place.
IB Learner Profile
The learner profile provides a long-term vision of education at AISVN. It is a set of ideals that can inspire, motivate and focus the work of schools and teachers, uniting them in a common purpose.
All teachers and administrators are fully certified and qualified in their various fields, with many having advanced degrees in education and receive specific professional development to teach the IB programmes. Our teachers have a strong work ethic, a positive outlook and are dedicated to creating a professional learning community at AISVN.
The school currently has 1,200 students, with 600 students in Elementary (Pre-K - Grade 5) and 600 students in Secondary (Grades 6 - 12) with steady growth each year. We have well-resourced classes of reasonable size and a safe purpose-built learning environment where students receive considerable individualized attention within the classroom. 2019/20 is the school’s first year of MYP implementation and the school’s 11th of the IB Diploma. The graduating class of 2019 posted the school’s best results ever with an average score of 34 points.
With a student body that is 90% Vietnamese, we have carefully constructed the most comprehensive EAL program resourced with qualified EAL teachers serving every grade level. No other school in the city provides this level of support within their international program. Because our families stay with us longer than more diverse international schools, the students benefit greatly from our scaffolded EAL program and the level of English language ability is high throughout the school. All students are tested into our programs using the WIDA to ensure they will be able to access the curriculum. The combination of student tenure with intentional EAL support has created a thriving community of highly motivated learners in all three IB programmes at AISVN.
LIVING IN HO CHI MINH CITY
Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Viet Nam, located on the banks of the Saigon River in the South of the country. The population of HCMC is more than 9 million people. It is centrally located in SE Asia within a 2-hour flight of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines and a 1-hour flight to Cambodia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Ho Chi Minh City is a vibrant place to live and work. The city center is still adorned with elegant boulevards and French Colonial architecture. Diverse international lifestyle includes cosmopolitan dining, shopping, and entertainment. While the cost of living in Vietnam is among the least expensive in Asia, lifestyle choices do affect the monthly costs incurred by each household. For many expatriates in Vietnam, however, the potential for savings is significant. Some teachers report saving 50-70% of their income.
